2-2 At Home Is Not A Good Result

I SAW very little of tonight's Celtic game in the Europa League - I was watching Canada v France in the Rugby World Cup. I did quickly switch over at half-time in the rugby, in time to see that terrible back-header from Ambrose.

What I can say is, no half-decent Celtic team of the past would have been happy to go 2-0 up, at Celtic Park, on a European night and be pegged back to 2-2.
I do not say such a result could not have happened in the past, or may not happen again, but, regardless of the perceived gulf between the money available to clubs in the Turkish and Scottish Leagues, we do not expect Celtic to suffer such a reverse.

We could accept a top European side - Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, either of the Milan clubs, Bayern Munich for instance giving the Scottish Champions home advantage and two goals of a start, and coming back to get a draw.

Fenerbahce are not a club of that quality, class or reputation. This was a bad result for Celtic, and one which bodes ill for a lengthy European run for the club.

MIND you, if Derek Desmond has his way, the club will, some day in the medium term, not have to worry about lengthy European runs. They will be playing in, if not the FA Premier League, then a British League, under-written by the sort of media billions which drive the EPL.

Desmond wants his club to enjoy the same income as Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and the other established EPL clubs enjoy.

Well Mr D, don't hold your breath. It aint gonna happen.

OF COURSE, the Europa League, far-less the EPL, or The Champions League even is but a pipe dream for the Rangers Tribute Act. Things may be going along swimmingly for the RTA in the Championship at the moment, but Phil Mac Giolla Bhain is increasingly confident that this is a club with a severe financial problem - lack of real money.

PMGB might be an obsessive when it comes to events down Edmiston Drive way, but, over the past five years he has been consistently ahead of the game, and more often right than wrong when it comes to forecasting what may or may not happen around the club.

On the field, it is great, off it, all is far from well in the world of Ra Peepul.

ELSEWHERE, the continuing vacancies at Dundee United and Motherwell helps fill otherwise blank pages at the back of our papers. The usual amount of speculation and misinformation is ongoing.

Thierry Henry for Fir Park, Aye Right!!

THE mighty Glenafton Athletic led the way in the first round of the Scottish Junior Cup on Saturday, thrashing Newmachar 14-0.

Mind you, the result of the day was posted elsewhere in East Ayrshire. My beloved Lugar Boswell Thistle lost 1-0 to Muirkirk. This was the first game Muirkirk have won for long and weary, so well done the 'Kirk.

Having been born ower the watter in that village, I suppose I should have been happy, but, why us?

I CAUGHT the Champions League highlights programme this week. The more I see of young Anthony Martial of Manchester United, the more I like him.

How long before we produce a young Scottish player with as much talent and potential?
